360 Tour Examples

tl;dr;
Two 360 tour R&D projects to explore hardware/software capabilities, offering valuable insights.

About
the project

This these projects we aimed to:

  • Explore the 360 cameras, including the GoPro 360 and Ricoh Theta X, alongside experimentation with DSLR cameras for capturing panoramic images. By scanning diverse locations, the project aimed to assess the potential applications of 360-degree imaging technology.
  • Through hands-on testing and stitching together images from DSLR cameras, the project sought to gain insights into the capabilities of different hardware options and identify opportunities for their utilisation.
  • To extend the default 360 functionality with additional Javascript. The example we used was for Zooming in on a stained glass window to see the additional detail taken from a DSLR camera. In theory, this means we can extend the platform with any JavaScript.
  • To explore the software for implementation and theme it appropriately.

Lake Zot 360 Tour

We found an opportunity to test the utilisation of a DSLR camera for high-quality photos compared to using a 360 camera. Although this required image stitching (which happens automatically with our 360 camera), it provided a good opportunity to observe the difference in quality and the time required for production.

Additionally, it offered a chance to interact with the map functionality in Pano2VR, enabling visualization and navigation through a map interface.
